Branding Potatoes

So today I attended the funeral of a sweet elderly sister in our branch. And since it's a small branch, took a couple of things for the lunch afterward: a rhubarb crisp for dessert and of course, FUNERAL POTATOES! I swear Darla was in the kitchen with me this morning as I whipped them up. After the funeral, I had a hair appt. My hairdresser & I were talking about death and funerals and I was telling her about Darla & the funeral potatoes. She asked what they were, so I told her the basic recipe. She looks at me and says, "No, honey. Those are Branding Potatoes." Out here, branding day isn't just the fam and a few friends trying to get all stinky & bloody. It's the fam and every single neighbor and relative that can be rounded up within a 100 mile radius. The family hosting "the Branding" as they put it, provides a huge spread for lunch, including Branding Potatoes. I guess I'll have to tell Dad no more stale cheese from the cab of the truck & cut with the castrating knife, sandwiches, warm pop and smoked oysters. He'll have to serve Branding Potatoes at the next "branding". I'm sure Darla will show up if he does, though. :)

Making Me Miss Mar...

And the rest of you too, but all the M's in the title sounded so cool! I made strawberry pie today and it just made me think of all the pie related memories I have of all of you, whether it's making pie together or eating an amazing pie by Marilyn or Nanny or watching "Pushing Daisies" with Cindy. It seriously made me a little homesick for everyone.
These ones are waiting for the pie man to touch them with his magic restoring finger so they'll be plump and red and un-moldy again and perfect for a pie :)

Missouri Church History Trip

Our ward went on a church history trip to Missouri last weekend.  Our stops included Independence, Liberty Jail, Fishing River, Far West, and Adam-ondi-Ahmen. Although I'd been to most of the sites before with our family, I was glad I did decide to go with my ward.  It was good to be reminded of what the early saints went through.

Me and Lars at Adam-ondi-Ahman: I couldn't be outdone by Taffy, so I had to post a picture of me with a boy to the blog.  (note: my relationship status on Facebook has not changed)

Me at the Fishing River:  Not your usually church history stop, but it is part of the Zion's Camp story.

Me and Eliza at Far West: (In the background Eliza's frenemy and the jerk - there was a little bit of high school drama happening on the bus. It made me laugh and I was glad I was able to avoid it for the most part.)

Shopping! My favorite part of all trips!
James Mercantile was down the street from Liberty Jail.  I took Eliza shopping with me to distract her.  It was fun trying on the dress, but I am thankful I didn't have to spend the rest of the afternoon in something like that.  It was a warm day, so it made me happy to live in the age of t-shirts.
Me and Mark at Spring Hill

We chose a good weekend to go, It was green and lovely. I can definitely see how that area could have been the Garden of Eden at one time.

Ok so i know you girls were just dying to see my loverly pictures of EFY. So here they are. Well some. i have lots, so i'll put the majority on facebook i think. Efy was amazing this year! Just like always. I will be very very very heartbroken for my last year to be next year! But for girls we can apply to be a councilor when we are 19, so i just might consider that option. First Blog - and a little boring

So, this is a little weird. Not really how I expected posting to a blog would be. Anyways. A little from Mar's life over the past 24 hours: I just got done with a scholarship interview. It was probably the funnest interview I've ever had in my life. It was with a Women's Organization so my interview was with about 10 middle aged women who all the cutest little blazers and sweaters on. Speaking of cute ladies, last night I went to FHE and instead of talking to people my own age and trying to meet the one cute guy that was there, what do I do? I go and talk to sister Graham and Sister Etherington till 9:45! Who knew FHE would ever be so much fun that I would stay and talk that long. And, one last thing, I didn't get to watch the Bachelor last night (I hate that I am obsessed with it, but I am) and I'm on the bus this morning and the bus driver was listening to Hollywood news and stuff came on about the Bachelor finale so I'm trying to plug my ears and hum so I can't hear anything, I probably looked like an idiot! Anyways, loves to you all! Sorry there are no pictures, I doubt that I'll ever post with pictures - it seems like way too much effort and it's not like I ever really take pictures anyway.

All Is Well, All Is Well!

Hello Aunties!!!

The ultrasound went fantastic today. Baby Butler was squirmy and wiggly and looks wonderful, perfect & healthy. Still very tiny, we weren't able to see anything gender related yet. Feet are measuring just 1/2 inch long. I just marvel that even that tiny, things are so perfectly formed. The tech informed me that I'm measuring 15 1/2 weeks - a full week ahead. But since I'm pretty confident of my dates, I'm just going to assume this will be like Clayton and plan for humongo-baby #2. And like Clayton, it appears this one is a thumb sucker, too. (see picture below)

This picture is actually of Clayton at 20-some weeks, also sucking his thumb. Amazing that they're so little, but can already do so much, even in the womb!

Scary Morning

I went to my 14 week prenatal today. The doctor put the dopplar on my tummy to listen to the heart tones. Nothing. For FIVE minutes, he moved it around and listened, and changed position, and listened. Nothing. He then scheduled an ultrasound for 9 a.m. tomorrow morning (the tech isn't in on Tuesdays) but asked if I had a few minutes if I could just wait in the waiting room for a while. He said he wanted me to come back in, in about 15-20 minutes so he could see if maybe the baby was tucked behind the placenta or something and had moved. Sure enough, when I went back in, there was the heartbeat! What a HUGE, intense relief. But what a roller-coaster for my emotions this morning! He still wants me to go in tomorrow morning, just to double check. So I get an early ultrasound. I'll keep you all posted. And just FYI, Clayton is 90th percentile for Height & Head circumference. 50th for weight. Looks like he's getting long & lean & smart like his daddy.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Here goes my first Blog ever, I can tell this is going to take some practice.
I just wanted to share my Party Pictures with you all.

Me and Katie, my friend from work. Love her!

Something New for us to Try

Hey, girlies! So I obviously have too much time on my hands. Either that, or I'm FINALLY feeling better now that I'm 14 weeks and have entered my 2nd Trimester! Yahoo! But I digress. I thought it would be way fun to have a blog that we can each post to whenever we want, as a way to keep in touch with one another better and share things that are happening in our lives. Since we're all getting more and more spread out, I think it would be fun to be able to share pictures & thoughts in a place that is private but that we can all access. Anyway, I hope you'll all take the opportunity to poke your head in now and then to share stuff, and to be shared with. Let me know what you think! Love you all!
